Новая составляющая современной историографической ситуации связана также с отменой искусственных барьеров, препятствовавших плодотворному общению западных исследователей с коллегами из новых "постсоветских" государств, издании переводов работ зарубежных историков, организации международных конференций, реализации совместных проектов. При этом отметим, что определение баланса между общим и противоположным в истории революции является одной из самых сложных проблем, с которыми сталкиваются исследователи советской истории.
