Review of the book «Business course of English language»
The book «Business course of English language» was written by иI.S. Bogatskij and N.M. Dukanova in 1997. Then it was changed, added and republished in 1997 and 1998.
This book is devoted to English learning people in groups or individually. It helps to get acquired in a short time with basic vocabulary and its useбАin most typical situations in written and oral forms. The aim of the book is to create enough language base for business communication in common forms.
The book under review was republished in 2006 in Moscow and it is the 5th added edition of this book. It contains 12 lessons. Each lesson includes examples of dialogues connected with professional life. They are followed by grammar and cultural comments. Besides grammar rules, linguistic comments and examples there are some practical exercises and tests you are to do in written and oral form. In order to inform you about culture of English speaking countriesДa text with general information about it was involved in the structure of each lesson.
«Business course of English language» has an extensive cover of material connected with every day business life (meetings, greeting, conferences, consulting and so on). It makes this book rather useful not only for businessmen but for ordinary people as well.ИUnfortunately in the book there are some inadequate points such as rather simple rules are explained and illustrated with rather difficult structures. It is better to say in a simply way about complicated things than to explain a primitive one in a difficult and complex way to ordinary people whose English is not very good. Anyway it can be highly recommended and valuable for those who deals with business English in everyday life and wants to improve his knowledge and to enlarge business vocabulary.

What Are the Benefits of Smartphone Technology?
After only about a decade, smartphone technology is so successful that businesses and employees have trouble imagining a day without them.
СBesides making phone calls, nearly all smartphones today can natively provide directions through GPS, take pictures, play music and keep track of appointments and contacts. Through the installation of apps, the list of possible smartphone uses multiplies by tens of thousands and grows longer every day.
иOld school cell phones can call and text. While this can get your message across, smartphones allow you multiple ways of communicating. Not only can they call, text and IM, they give you access to email, immediate photo sharing, video callingбand video conferencing. You can also remain connected through social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
At first, web browsing happened at a desk in an office, where a wire could reach a PC. Wireless access and laptops moved the web to pretty much anywhere in the house or office, but smartphone technology, including broadband wireless,Аhas sent the web onto the subway, into cars and to the park -- wherever there is cellular coverage. What's more, the latest smartphones can display nearly as much of the internet as PCs, including games and streaming high definition videos.
Once, you might have neededДan entire bag to carry around all the devices needed for daily business activities. You would need your cell phone and your PDA. You might also need an MP3 player, an e-book reader, a camera and a GPS device. Through miniaturized hardware that packs a processor, speakers, a camera, a GPS receiver, a Wi-Fi adapter and a high definition touch-sensitive screen into a cell-phoneИ-sized device, a smartphone puts all of this functionality into your pocket. One of your workers can easily search for directions to a client's business, read a sales flier before a meeting starts and transmit an ad sale to your office from via a mobile hotspot.
The late twentieth-century saw an explosion of computer applications. The early twenty-first century brings hundreds of thousands of smartphone apps. The sensors built into the smartphone as well as its portability and programmability have made it a device with almost limitless applications. Beyond the tons of games and productivity apps available, health and fitness apps track the miles you've run, the calories you've consumed and even your current heart rate. Internet radio and podcasting apps put you in touch with whole new worlds of audio. Compass apps, leveling apps and flashlights provide handheld utilities. Apps that let you paint, modify photos or create music tap into your creativity.

Advantages of modern means of communication?
Modern means of communication enables people to communicate from long distances with ease. For example, social media sites have made communication among family and friends easier with the use of internet. There are more options for communication than in the past that are most cost efficient.
СHow Internet helps us in modern business as a way of
Communication?
Internet has a lot of benefits to use it as a means of communication, first it is very cheap as compare to telephones to communicate, it is very useful to advertise your products worldwide at a very cheap rate as compare иto advertise it through a magazine or on a TV channel, also if a business company wants to share their files with their foreign companies, they can do it via internet, internet has a lot of enhanced features such as messengers, bidding websites,бselling product sites like alibaba.com, so it makes communication more beautiful and interesting.
What are the new modern trends in communication?
The new modern trends in communication involve a decrease in face to face, in person communication. There is now extensive use of e-mails, phones, text and videoАchat.
What are the benefits of modern means of communication?
Modern communication is quicker than communication in the past. Itis also cheaper because you can talk to people around the world for free.
Benefit of modern communicationДto students?
If you refer to modern communication as use of "cellphones (sms, mms) or online communication devices like messengers, emails, online conferences, VoIP, or simply the use of internet to communicate through webpages, I think it benefits me (personally) a lot. There was one time that we have to make research. With the use of modernИcommunication, we are able to finish our research only by using Yahoo Messenger through file sharing and of course chat. It is also beneficial to students because researching is much easier. Browse online. But I find this method has a disadvantage. Some websites are not credible enough, you don't even know whether they are telling the truth and the information they gave is valid.
Language
Linguists and philologists have been trying for centuries to define the term. A definition is really a condensed version of a theory, and a theory is simply - or not so simply an extended definition. Yet second language teachers clearly need to know generally what sort of entity they are dealing with and how the particular language they are teaching fits into that entity.

Suppose you were stopped by a reporter on the street and in the course of an interview about your vocational choice you were asked: 'Well, since you are a foreign language teacher, would you define language in a sentence or two?' Nonplussed, you would no doubt dig deep into your memory for a typical dictionary-type definition of language. Such definitions, if pursued seriously, could lead to a lexicographer's wild-goose chase, but they also can
Сreflect a reasonably coherent synopsis of current understanding of just what it is that linguists are trying to study.
Common definitions found in introductory textbooks on linguistics include the concepts of (1) the generativity or creativity of language, (2) the presumed primacy of speech over writing, and (3) the universality of иlanguage among human beings.
Many of the significant characteristics of language are capsulized in these definitions. Some of the controversies about the nature of language are
1.Languageбis systematic and generative.
2.Language is a set of arbitrary symbols.
3.Those symbolsАare primarily vocal, but may also be visual.
4.The symbols have conventionalized meanings to which they refer.
5.Language is used for communication.
6.Language operates in a speech community or culture.
7.Language is essentiallyДhuman, although possibly not limited to
humans.
8.Language is acquired by all people in much the same way - language and language learning both have universal characteristics.
These eight statements provide a reasonable concise 'twenty-five- words-or less' definition of language. But theИsimplicity of the eightfold definition should not be allowed to mask the sophistication of linguistic endeavor underlying each concept.
Enormous fields and subfields, year-long university courses, are suggested in each of the eight categories. Consider some of these possible areas:
1.Explicit and formal accounts of the system of language on several possible levels (most commonly syntactic, semantic, and phonological).
2.The symbolic nature of language; the relationship between language and reality; the philosophy of language; the history of language.
3.Phonetics; phonology, writing systems; kinesics, proxemics, and other 'paralinguistic' features of language.
4.Semantics; language and cognition; psycholinguistics.
34
5. Communication systems; speaker-hearer interaction; sentence processing.
6. Dialectology; sociolinguistics; language and culture; bilingualism and second language acquisition.
7. Human language and nonhuman communication; the physiology of
language.
СThe culmination of language learning is not simply in the mastery of the forms of language, but the mastery of forms in order to accomplish the communicative functions of language. Mastery of vocabulary and structures
8. Language universals; first language acquisition.
Serious and extensive thinking about these eight topics involves a
mindboggling journey through a labyrinth of linguistic science - a maze that has yet to be mastered.
Language functions
и transmittingбand receiving thoughts, ideas, and feelings between speaker and
results in nothing if the learner cannot use those forms for the purpose of
hearer, or writer and reader. While forms are the manifestation of language, functions are the realization of those forms. The pragmatic purpose of
language - the use of signs and symbols for Communication - is thus the final and ultimate objective of the second language learner.
Forms of languageАgenerally serve specific functions. 'How much does that cost?' is usually a form functioning as a question, and «He bought a car» functions as a statement. But linguistic forms are not always unambiguous in their function. «I can't find my umbrella» uttered by a frustrated adult who is late for work on a rainy day may be a frantic request for all in the household to join in a search. A child who says 'I want some ice cream' is rarely stating a simple fact or observation but requesting ice cream in her own intimate
A sign on the street that saysД'one way' functions to guide traffic in only one direction. A sign in a church parking lot in a busy downtown area was

subtle in form but direct in function: 'We forgive those who trespass against us, but we also tow them'; that sign functioned effectively to prevent unauthorized cars from parking in the lot.
Communication may be regarded as a combinationИof acts, a series of elements with purpose and intent. Communication is not merely an event, something that happens; it is functional, purposive, and designed to bring about some effect - some change, however subtle or unobservable - on the environment of hearers or speakers. Communication is a series of communicative acts or speech acts, to use John Austin's (1962) term, which are used systematically to accomplish particular purposes. Austin stressed the importance of consequences, the 'illocutionary force', of linguistic communication. Researchers have since been led to examine communication
